Location Shots Fired
This river is the beautiful Umpqua River. Friends, Rob and Allan, experienced one of a gold prospectors worst fears here. Shots were fired at them (well over their heads). The two were making their way down the river to an area that was open to place a claim.
Actually they didn't know if the area was open to claim or not, so they thought they'd go looking for gold claim markers to see if the area was open. (They couldn't get the BLM mining expert to return their calls. If they'd talked to the man perhaps this shooting could have been avoided.)
No one was hurt, but it rattled the friends. This shooting took the friends to safer gold prospecting areas: those open to the public. ... Have you had such an experience? Why not tell us about it, comment!

Gear but No Prospectors
"Where did these guys go? We were here for several hours and no one came back to the site. Strange!" Rob Perry
Weekend Trip
Click photos to make larger. These photos were taken by Rob Perry on the South Umpqua, Oregon. The gold prospector here is Randy. He's digging out the cracks, looking for the gold.
