FOR FUN

  (GOLD RUSH TIMES)

On page 155 of of the above book it tells of Labor Day restrictions on hard drink, that being--just beer available. But  from the back woods "corn squeezins"  came which had the above result. It was called "tangle leg."  No more about hard drink. This just tickled my funny-bone and so I decided to share it. ... Linda Newton-Perry

Brandon S

SORRY, You didn't find any gold. I usually put a little gold on a card and put clear tape over it to make sure the person gets some gold. I'll do that for you. ... Linda Newton-Perry

Brandon, the gold, real or pyrite, came from this bottle that I'm sending off today. As you can see it is just about gone. Anyway, remember if you run out of material to pan, pick up some gravel along the road, etc. You may be surprised what you'll find....LNP

Did you know...

GOLD RUSH TIMES: I've read in several books that whisky was often  stretched in volumn by saloon owners by dropping in the barrel shaved plug tobacco and water. I'm sure they didn't tell the parched gold prospectors, their customers,  this little fact!... Linda Newton-Perry

HEY BRANDON...

I just spoke to Brandon about the flake of gold that I found in gravel from my yard. I panned it and now it's on my finger atop the red polish. It is one of the largest flakes I've ever found in my pan.

So just remember if you can't get to the river/creek to get material--look to YOUR YARD! ... Linda Newton-Perry, Blog Master

HISTORY

HISTORY

Back in the days of wagon trains moving west to settle and  or prospect for gold the saying "to see the elephant" or "I've seen the elephant" was common. But what does it mean? According to the book GOLD DUST  by Donald Dale Jackson, this expression was "a popular expression of the day which meant to learn or gain experience by enduring great hardship." So now you know.

Press and Blog Master for THE GOLD ANGLE

TALKING GOLD

Just how much gold has been mined since records have been kept, or guesses made? According to Compressed Air Magazine around 89,000 tons.  And where is this gold? Well again, Compressed Air Magazine states that official institutions and monetary authorities own the majority. The rest of the gold is in jewelry, thirty percent and 11 percent held by private parties.

While researching the Gold Rush 1849 I  read that keeping records of the gold was nonexistent for several years. So much of these numbers are just educated guesses. Oh, well at least we have a vague idea.

I wonder if the gold wedding ring on my finger has been counted? Think I should tell them?
